i have a symbol ppt 2800 series pocket pc. symbol puts out an sdk with a
control that works w/ the built-in scanner. the control works fine in evb
but i want to utilize vb.net. i can include the dll in the project from the
com tab, it shows up in the toolbox but is disabled. anyone have an idea on
how i can get this little fella to play w/ vb.net...any ole api tricks...am
i missing something...is it perhaps, just the way the control was written?

If it's an ActiveX DLL, you can't use it directly from .NET CF.  You might
want to search the old messages for information on this limitation.  Odyssey
Software has a component which allows COM components, like the one you're
talking about, to be used from .NET CF, however.  An even better solution is
to use the Symbol .NET CF interface to the scanner.  Check with them...

Can't guarantee that it's for your device, but they have some .NET CF
components for certain devices.

well silly...you shouldn't have wasted your time using symbol's search for
".net compact framework". you should have just searched aimlessly through
their dev zone until you came across the "Symbol Mobility Developer Kit for
.NET" on the devzone.symbol.com server. you'd have found that it kind of
sounds like what you wanted. you'd have had to do a lot of gerrymandering of
backing up platform dlls then applied the new ones...then a cold boot would
have set you on your way. that is, after you completely reconfigure the
device so it can talk to your wap and reset active sync to connect to your
"new" device.

was it worth it...hmmm... .net...ok, yes it was!

hth,
