can anyone tell me general rules of getting the SGi STL to work with vc++ 6.

I suggest you look into STLPort at http://www.stlport.org which has an SGI
based STL with full compile instructions for VC6.

Better still buy the new Dinkumware STL from www.dinkumware.com and you will
get the best STL for VC (it is a fixed version of the one that Microsoft are
still shipping).

If neither of these alternatives are acceptible then try searching this
group from www.deja.com. I think this topic has been discussed many times on
this group.
