 Image, Sections and COMDATs
Image, section and COMDAT refer to mechanisms the compiler and linker use to
package information (code and data) used to build an executable. Additional
information can be found in Visual Studio help (search for /SECTION, COMDAT)
and on the portable executable (PE) file format (search for "portable
executable" or the article "Peering Inside the PE: A Tour of the Win32
Executable File Format").

In simplest terms, there is a relationship between them. "Image" typically
refers to the final executable and an image contains code and data
"sections". COMDATs are a particular type of section used in the compilation
process.
