 HiProf profiler, using with VC6

I purchased the HiProf profiler from TracePoint about a year ago.  It is
a
great product, but the company closed and I cannot get HiProf to
recognize
symbols or PDB files generated by VC6.  Is anyone out there using
HiProf?
Have you been able to get it to work with VC6?  Is there a newsgroup
where
orphanned HiProf users talk?

Thanks!

I also tried TracePoint's profiler, having *never* been able to get MSVC's
to work for anything non-trivial.  I thought it was extremely good, and was
suprised they went under about a week after I encountered them.

I've heard rumor their technology was purchased and re-released by Nu-Mega,
though I haven't purchased it yet.

Numega has a profiler called TrueTime, although I don't know who (if anyone)
they licensed it from. They do have a track record of purchasing product
rather than developing them in-house (with the exception of BoundsChecker
and SoftIce).

i believe that truetime has been developed in-house. [or at least all
the development since its initial release]

i assume you may have actually been thinking of metrowerks [makers of
the codewarrior compilers], instead of numega. metrowerks licensed the
technology from dec, as tracepoint technologies was 'formerly a
Digital Company' [http://www.metrowerks.com/desktop/cat2.html#how ]

You might consider trying Intel's VTune analyzer.

http://developer.intel.com/vtune

There's a trail version you can download. VTune is in the same
class of tools as those you are discussing.

We once bought VTune.  At the time it was great for what it did, but it did
*not* do hierarchical profiling.  i.e. it showed time in function, but not
callers and called.  Has a new version remedied this?
