 SQL-Server + Date/Time

i got some problems using sql-server with datetime-members with
vc-date/time-controls, so i finally saved it in a string. but when trying to
use following where-statement, i get an empty recordset:

... WHERE ((([DPersch].[MyApp].Date) BETWEEN '1.4.2000' AND '10.4.2000'))
...

is there no possibility to enter a date-range for a string?
