 getting started with API programming

hello all.  i am trying to teach myself to program some basic VB API stuff
(especially netoworking APIs), and i am hoping that someone here can point
me in the right direction to learn the basics of how to start with the API
programming basics.  i have a pretty good understanding of networks and
programming concepts, but the VB event-driven model is sorta confusing to
me.

can anyone suggest some good online info on how to get started with API
programming, such as how to declare routines, how to call dlls, etc?  i
would be very greatful!

TIA

please email responses!!!  thanks!

Best resource I know of is The Visual Basic Programmer's Guide to the Win32
API by Daniel Appleman.  His home page is http://www.desaware.com
