 have a window that... has focus until I determine otherwise..

Hi all,

I want to load a form(that displays a message), until such time as I decide
to return
control to the app(the user.)

-basically, when the form is being displayed, I will be querying a DB, so I
don't want to use to interfere with the app.

Does anyone know how to do this?

/all help will be appreciated...
/thanx in advance...

If you're using VB5 or 6, add a new form to your project using the Splash
Screen wizard.

There are a couple of easy ways to do this.
1. display the message form modally and put
your db query code in a timer on that form
which is set for a 500 ms delay.  unload the
form at the end of the timer event.
2. hide all forms except the message form while
doing the db query

These solutions may or may not apply to your
particular project, but they're relatively
simple to implement.

You're welcome.  However...
Next time, don't post a coding question to the
.bugs newsgroup.  You might also want to trim
that 23 line sig down to the standard 4 or less.

Followups trimmed to exclude ms.public.vb.bugs.

You can try this in your msg form:

Option Explicit
Dim OKtoCloseForm

Public Sub CloseForm()
    OKtoCloseForm = True
    Unload Me
End Sub

Private Sub Form_QueryUnload(Cancel As Integer, UnloadMode As Integer)
    Cancel = Not OKtoCloseForm
End Sub

Then show it modal and call CloseForm to get rid of it.

Form2.Show vbModal
... your queries ...
Form2.CloseForm
