Clarence,

Newsgroups are a tremendous resource, but only if they are not abused. The
answer I gave you was trivial, because the question was too vague. The
intent was to get more information on what you needed, if you cared to
follow up, and not to waste anyone's time guessing at an off mark answer if
you did not care to follow up.

Even experienced programmers solve at most a few difficult problems at a
time. When starting out (which you obviously are if you are thanking me for
pointing out KeyPreview or that subclassing is complicated) simple things
are difficult and you really need to adequately solve and understand each
problem. You just can't bring down deer at a hundred yards with a shotgun.
You need a rifle and the extra effort required.

So, take{*filter*}'s comment seriously. Learn to walk, so that you can learn to
dance. Think through your question to allow other people to help you walk
and teach you to dance. Look at the questions that get serious answers. Look
at the questions that don't. Take responsibility for which category your
posts wind up in.

And it is just plain stupid to annoy the folks that have a history of
answering questions in a newsgroup you frequent or plan to frequent.

Kathleen,

Many thanks for writing what I should have posted in the first place.

There is help in the newsgroups for everyone, but obviously the newsgroups
are not a replacement for the help files and/or the manuals.

Kathleen

At the risk of prolonging this thread even further, I must write in and say
that your post marks you out as one of the mature and responsible users of
these VB newsgroups.

Clarence, your questions indicated that you did not bother to do the minimum
research on your problems.  How will you improve your programming skills if
you don't make your own mistakes and learn from them?  We are here to share
problems, not to write programs for one another.  Take note from people like
{*filter*} Harrison, VB Joker and Kathleen and you will learn a great deal.

All the best.
