I am having trouble early-binding Excel 5, does anyone know how to do this,
is it possible?
My current code gives me the error 'invalid use of the keyword New' when I
try to run it.

Dim ExcelApp as Excel.Application
Set ExcelApp = New Excel.Application

can anyone explain why this does not work?  Is it just a problem with Excel
5?

Use CreateObject:

Set objExcelApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
