They shut off the machine that hosted their branch of Usenet, the bubble gum
and duct tape that held that server together finally gives and the machine
falls apart like a dropped lego house.  Raymond Chen and/or Larry Osterman
pick through the pieces to blog about ancient technology.

At first I read that as windbag.

The newsgroup server will keep running for six months with no
newsgroups.  Then the DNS entries will get remove but they will still
be accessible via IP address for another six months.

Have you ever dropped a Lego house? Those blocks have staying power...
Lincoln Logs would be a better metaphor.

True.  When I demolished lego houses, I did it from the upstairs.  A one
story fall onto a wood floor takes care of the house fairly effectively.
<g>

The tragedy here is that is next to impossible to find lego sets or lincoln
log sets that were as good they were back in the 70s and before.  Everything
nowe is pre-fabbed to build it via instructions, which sucks.  Back in the
day, we used our imaginations.  How times have changed.

MS just deleted all the newsgroups on their server sometime during the last
few hours. Their server is still online at the moment.
