What is in-process or out-process component?

In-process = DLL
out-process = EXE
Right?

What is in-process or out-process component?
Correct.  This means that DLL function calls run on the same thread of
execution (process) as the calling function in another component.  So any
number of threads can access the same DLL without conflict, because each
uses its own "virtual machine" to do so.

An ActiveX EXE runs in its own process (with SingleUse, each object runs in
its own process).  With the proper planning, this enables background
operations.  However, it is initially more limited.  If two clients try to
access a MultiUse server, one is blocked until the other is finished.
