Install VB6 without being forced to install IE4?
I need to install some of VB 6's components, namely the "Microsoft ODBC Oracle Driver" without installing the dreaded, system crippling, uninstallable (and I'm having a good day aswell), IE4 on a test machine with very little free disk space! - so even if I wanted to install it I couldn't (take note Microsoft - freedom of choice!) As you would expect, they've made IE4 mandatory before allowing access to the VB6 installation routine! Is it possible to get round this or is this yet another despictable act from the modern day Mafia? Time for a Pint or two I think! Thanks A.H

Install Microsoft Data Access Components directly instead of using VB6. Look on your development machine for the file "MDAC_TYP.EXE" and run that on the client machine. It will give you the option of a custom installation which will allow you to install just the Oracle drivers. -- John Tabor

OH YEAH - this shure p'd me off as well - i hope the US justice system makes MS wake up to the fact that when people buy into one product they should not be FORCED into using another product - I notice that nowhere on the new VB6 packaging does it stat that "you are required to have IE4 installed in order to instal this product" - at the very least it should carry this warning! @cts.com X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.0810.800 Newsgroups: microsoft.public.vb.installation,microsoft.public.vb.enterprise,microsoft.p ublic.vb.bugs Don't forget that MS is convinced that IE is part of the operating system. If you got back to Win95, a {*filter*} install still has IE 1.0 hidden in the background. In short, they view IE 4 as a operating system patch. Greywolf Ghost PS While WIn98 is ridiculously unstable, when you upgrade to IE5 is calms down quite a bit.

On the back of my VB6 Pro package it says under System Requirements: Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1 (included) It also says to allow a minimum of 43MB up to a maximum of 59MB to install Internet Explorer. I also do not like being forced to install 1 product in order to be able to use the product I paid for. I would prefer to always have an IE free system. -- Thanks

When you install, select Custom... then you can unclick the Internet Explorer and it won't install... It's there so you can utilize the internet connections for the help, etc. and to register online with VB Good enough? Install VB6 without being forced to install IE4?
Hi All... Finally broke down and bought VB6Pro. Freed up as much HD space as I could afford, and ran into the same problem... However, by MY frustrated attempts, up until 3am this morning, Quote:

"it won't install" - in my case, NOTHING would install. VB won't install either. If I don't accept IE, the install routine only allows me to exit. Bastards! Quote: > It's there so you can utilize the internet connections for the help, > etc. and to register online with VB
Nah. If I didn't care about Inet and wanted to reg by mail, it STILL wouldn't work. Quote: > Good enough?
Sigh... nope, won't be good enough until I find a way to install VB6 on my sorry laptop w/out the additional overhead of IE4x Quote:

What happens if you install IE 4, install VB, then uninstall IE 4? I'd try it myself since I have no use for IE, but I am fearful that there would be repurcussions that I am not aware of and don't have the time or energy to deal with. Sombody call the DOJ :-) Quote:
