Oracle vs. MS Oracle OLEDB

 Oracle vs. MS Oracle OLEDB

I just read a note on the Microsoft.public.data.ado newsgroup that mentioned
the Microsoft provider for Oracle doesn't support LOB types (Blob, Clob).
Also, development is on hold for the Microsoft Provider for Oracle so you
might be better off working with the Oracle provider since presumably they
will continue work on providers for their own database.

There are also some 3rd party providers out there although I don't know
which ones specifically.

Chris.

Oracle OLEDB driver seems to be more limited then Microsoft Oracle OLEDB
driver especially in the way of what recordset options it supports.  For
instance, Oracle driver does not support AddNew, Bookmark, Find etc but MS
Oracle OLEDB driver does.  This obviously favours me as I am working with
recordsets.

Are there any advantages you may have experienced with using Oracle OLEDB
driver over Microsoft's?

 Oracle vs. MS Oracle OLEDB

The Oracle provider from Oracle Corporation has support for Oracle8
features, which are lacking in the provider from Microsoft.

I have heard that the Oracle OLEDB provider is quicker than the Microsoft
one, although it is less stable. A fairly good third party Oracle provider
is
available from Merant, although it is costly.

Hopefully the Microsoft Provider for Oracle development will continue soon
as we are using it on our project and could do with some performance
improvements.
