MSDataShape Hierarchical RecordSets and the GetRows Method

Hello

I am opening a simple Parent with Child shaped recordset and assiging .GetRows to a variable.  I can iterate through the Array with no problems, but when I get to the element that should contain the child recordset, it returns empty.

Does GetRows support shaped recordsets?

Hi David,

I did not check your code, but if you use GetRows method,
then it will dump information into array only for current
selected level of recordset. So if you are working with
parent recordset variable, then you will get only
information about parents, no children

MSDataShape Hierarchical RecordSets and the GetRows Method
Thanks.

Back to the drawing board.... It's a shame, because if you do objRs.Save
adPersistXML it does create the children...

Hi David,

I did not check your code, but if you use GetRows method,
then it will dump information into array only for current
selected level of recordset. So if you are working with
parent recordset variable, then you will get only
information about parents, no children

MSDataShape Hierarchical RecordSets and the GetRows Method
Hi,

Save method saves whole recordset into file/stream, but
GetRows is different. You cannot create hierarchical
array. This is probably it was designed to save only
current level of recordset

MSDataShape Hierarchical RecordSets and the GetRows Method

Hi

If you're reading this looking for an answer it is "Can't be done".

Loop through the first recordset again and get rows off the child recordset into the correct array subscript.

  Hello

I am opening a simple Parent with Child shaped recordset and assiging .GetRows to a variable.  I can iterate through the Array with no problems, but when I get to the element that should contain the child recordset, it returns empty.

  Does GetRows support shaped recordsets?
