ADO Deployment, client vs server side cursors

While developing an ADO application on an NT 4 workstation, ADO
recordsets were set to client side cursors, and everything worked fine.
when deployed to NT target machines, kept getting error messages about
MSDataShape already open etc, seemed to be relative to child recordsets
when traversing records.  When switched to server side cursors and
target deployment machines were NT, everything ok again, anyone know
whats going on?

The database is currently implemented using MS Jet engine and it is
local.
