 What does ANY(<field-name>) do?

Was just wondering what the ANY(<field>) qualifier does in the SHAPE

 What does ANY(<field-name>) do?
From the help file:

ANY is an aggregate function that returns:

"The value of a column (where the value of the column is the same for all
rows)."
