 Jet 3.5 and FoxPro 2.5

I'm trying to create an index (CDX) to one text field (len: 200 bytes) in a
FoxPro 2.5 table with about 2770 records of some 300 bytes each, using Jet
3.5. Every time I do get an unexpected error and Dr Watson coming up. Other
fields don't cause any problem, and other tables with a similar structure
seem to work fine.
I did check every record of the table, no empty fields (I did find an bug
report in the Knowledge Base about empty fields causing a problem when
genereatin an index on a field with empty values). I tried everything and
more, but now I'm quite desparate.
Anybody famliar with this problem? Any cue?
