VB 4.0 16 bit application written on Windows 3.11 for Win NT 4.0

A contract programmer wrote the program originally
in VB 3.0 and then converted it to VB 4.0.  His PC
at his office is a 486 with windows 3.11.  He had
some trouble converting to the 32 bit for our PC
which has NT 4.0.  I will be responsible for
maintaining this project but I cannot load it on
my PC (also win NT 4.0).  How can I make these
compatible?  The application seems to run ok but I
am concerned about maintaining.  Do I need to have
him convert to the 32 bit completely (if
possible)?  Thanks for your help - I am not even
at novice level yet.
