VB5 Program problem using Visual Foxpro 5.0 Databases

I need to read from and write to MS Visual Foxpro 5 databases using VB5.
For some reason it appears that the jet engine is happy to use older foxpro
databases, but not the newer Visual Foxpro 5 which i purchased as part of
Visual Studio.

Can anyone help?  I want to use the Data control if I can (for speed of
development) and have little experience with ODBC.

Many thanks in advance for reading this.  Much more if you can help.
