 jet 3.5 vs jet 4.0

Hi,

I have an appliction which uses DAO to access (!) an Access 97 database and
as part of the deployment process the MSJET35.DLL file is installed together
with MDAC 2.5. I'd be very grateful if the following questions could be
answered to help me to clear up some things in my head:

1) Would I be right in thinking that once installed on a client's PC the
application would use Jet 3.5 to access the database?

2) Does the Jet 3.5 engine get installed if they already have a Jet 4.0
engine installed?

3) Can an Access 97 database be accessed through Jet 4.0?

Thankx,
Wayne.

Wayne,

I believe DAO 3.6 uses the Jet 4.0 provider.  However, don't quote me on
that.  It's been so long since I used DAO.  You may be able to specify the
provider.

Yes, the Jet 3.5 provider will get installed if the Jet 4.0 provider is
present.

Yes, you can access an Access 97 database with Jet 4.0.  However, the Jet
3.51 provider is slightly faster that the Jet 4.0 provider when accessing 97
databases.  However, Jet 4.0 is the appropriate provider for Access 2000.
