I am currently using Crystal Reports 8.5 with the Report Distribution
Expert.  I have upgraded user computers to Windows 2000.  Since the
upgrade I am no longer able to get the Distributed Reports to work on
the user computers.  Does anyone have any idea why this feature will
no longer work?

First thing I would check is to look for a rights issue since W2K strictly
enforces many aspects of rights that the other OSs might let  pass.

Thank you for resonding to my inquiry.  I'm not sure where to go to
find the rights issue.  I have checked the original files that belong
to Crystal 8.5 and the security level is set to "everyone" with no
restrictions.  Maybe I am looking in the wrong places.  Should I be
checking the individuals computers?

What exactly happens when the users try to run the reports?
( BTW, I assume you know that the Report Distribution Expert is not really
supported in 8.5, since Crystal now thinks everything should be web-based)

I know that the Report Distribution Expert is not supported but this
system works out very well for us.

The way this has always worked is if I change information in the
parameters of a report all reports on the client machines have
automatically taken those changes.  I find that now I always have to
run the 'report distribution' and then go back to the client computers
and reinstall the reports (run the setup.exe files). I am not making
design changes to the reports only changing information in the
parameters (adding and removing campaigns).

Is it possible to have all clients pickup the reports from one central
location, where your original reports located?

Hi Cheryl,
Bill's method is the one we use..
After one install( using Crystal's distribution setup.exe) on each workstation (
to set up the DLLs, registry entries, ODBC, etc) all shortcuts point to a shared
directory( or folder, if your are picky about terminology ) with all the
compiled reports - that way I  only have to change 1 copy for all users to get
the new stuff..

Compile reports are great if you've only got one or two reports, but becomes
difficult if you've got hundred of the things.

For one client, I developed a VB app that looks for a report and then runs
it.  it asks the parameters and has a few other useful features.  Have a
look on my web  site (www.chelseatech.co.nz) for a  demo of cView.  There is
an enhanced version cViewPlus that has report scheduling and multiple report
processing.- rerun a report and change a parameter and a destination.
