Mr. Webster notwithstanding, in the context you describe the word it is
synonymous with 'User Defined'. Adhoc queries are queries designed (not just
executed) by the end user at run time. This means more than simply accepting
an argument in order to execute a pre built query. In a similar manner, adhoc
reports are reports designed (not just executed) by the end user. In general,
users like to be able to define their own quries and reports, especially if
the users are charged with maintaining the information in the database.
