CR6 and CR8 playing well together

CR6 and CR8 playing well together

We have an older system that has reports created in
Crystal Reports version 6.  Now we have created another
program for different purposes but it uses Crystal Reports
version 8.  We need to be able to run both programs on the
same machine.
We can install version 8 on the machines and specify to
leave the older version on the machine.  Everything seems
to run, no errors reported or anything.  But when  you
look at the data of the reports run in version 6, the
selection formula is totally messed up.  Comparing a
report run on a machine with both and a machine with only
6 produces totally different output.
Has anyone ever run into this before?  It really isn't an
option to update the older program.  Another division has
control of all maintenance and development done on it and
they say it isn't an option right now.  I really don't
want to have to redo all my reports in the older version
of Crystal either.  Any help would be greatly
appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

CR6 and CR8 playing well together
Crystal installs a lot of DLL's in the windows\system and windows\crystal
directories - and CR6 and CR8 use different versions of those.  CR8 will run
the CR6 reports, so moving them up isn't a problem.

But your App with CR6 reports may experience problems as the new DLLS'
haven't been compiled in that EXE.  You don't try and Run Access 95 and
Access 2000 on the same machine, and Cr is in the same category.  It should
just be a matter of the developer installing the CR8 on their  machine and
recompiling - so not a lot of work requried there.

The only solutions I can see are separate machines, or use an App like
VMware or Partition Magic to install the two apps where they can't see each
other.

Good luck.

CR6 and CR8 playing well together
Actually we are running Access 95 and 2000 on the same
machine.  All we had to do is change a font file and they
worked fine together.  There just happened to be some
documentation on the Microsoft website that told us
exactly what to do.  I can't even find an article on the
Crystal webside that even mentions 6 and 8 in the same
document.  As I said, we don't really have the option of
upgrading the other program at this time.  So we have to
find some other solution.  Anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks,

Carol
