Crystal Reports ActiveX Viewer in IE 5 on NT 4

Hello,

I am having a configuration problem with the Crystal Reports ActiveX Viewer.
I have just deployed a Web (ASP) application that uses Crystal Reports RDC
(rptserver.asp) and am having the following problem.  Machines that are
using IE on Windows 98 are able to install the ActiveX viewer into their
browser and view the reports.  Machines that are running NT 4 (with MS
Office 97) get the prompt to install the viewer, but it doesn't seem to
install.  They get a grey box with the red X in the top left corner.  When
they try to view the report again, they again get the prompt to install the
viewer, but it doesn't install.

Here's the kicker:  Machines that have NT 4 and Office 2000 on them are NOT
HAVING THE PROBLEM.  We actually did a test where we tried to view a report
on an NT 4 / Office 97 machine and got the error.  Then upgraded that
machine to Office 2000 and we were able to view the report!

Now, I have read the Crystal technical doc for trouble shooting the ActiveX
install, but none of the solutions in there seem to help.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kevin Healey

Crystal Reports ActiveX Viewer in IE 5 on NT 4
More info:

We have uninstalled Office 2000 from our test machine (the one that had
Office 97) and then re-installed Office 97.

Guess what? The Viewer still works. So is it just the installation of the
ActiveX viewer that wasn't working with Office 97 installed? And now that
the viewer has been installed on that machine, everything is ok?

A neat test would be to install Office 2000 and then uninstall it without
viewing a report. After uninstalling, would the viewer work? Unfortunately I
don't have time to test this.

Thanks,
Kevin
