I just intalled a new system and am slowly moving my work from the old
one to the new one. On the old system I originally had CR6, then CR7 and
then CR8. On the new system I installed only CR8.

One of my old packages includes three DLLs that are not in the
Windows/Crystal directory on the new system - they are there in the old
system. The DLLs are:
  u2lbar.dll
  u2lphone1.dll
  u2lstrng.dll

Are these still required or are they just "left-overs" from an earlier
vrsion of CR. I do see that they are called when I run an app on the old
system?

Mostly the U2L*.DLL files are custom made functions (some are delivered by
default with Crystal Reports). These can be used in formulas. I have to
admit I don't know what functions are in the dlls mentioned above, but I
think u2lbar contains the Azalea barcode functions, u2lphone1 some custom
formatting for American style phone numbers and u2lstrn some functions for
formatting strings.

If you don't use functions contained in these DLLs you can do without them.
If you use functions from these DLLs  you'll find out soon because these
functions will  not be found once the report is run.
