Using winsock control for finding IP addy

Hi everyone,

I want to write a program that stays in the background and every time a user
connects to the internet it checks for the current IP address.  If it's not
connected then nothing will happen but if there is an IP address it'll be
stored in a variable.

Does anyone have any ideas?  I know you can run winipcnfg to find it out but
I want to write a program that finds it out instead... thanks

noah (highschool student)

I'm not sure how he did it, but http://www.keware.com/ Homeseer (among
other things) will send you an e-mail every time the IP addy changes on a
given machine, remotely.

This is used for "time of day" dial-up for accessing Homeseer's webserver
from work, thus allowing the user to turn off the coffee pot if he left it
on.

P.S.  Rich is the type of hacker that will probabally TELL you how he did
it.  He programs in VB and VB Script, and HomeSeer is by far the BEST home
automation software out there at this time (at least, in the X10 world,
where the protocol itself is buggy as hell).

Using winsock control for finding IP addy
All I know is that in combination with HomeSeer, it works.  I said I
didn't know HOW it worked to begin with.  I'll bet if you look at the BAT
& HTML files, it calls something in the DLL to get the information and
then upload it to a website.
You should be able to access the same ActiveX DLL from VB to get the IP
addy and then use it however you want to.
