Transparent background in ActiveX custom control messes up text

Transparent background in ActiveX custom control messes up text

In an ActiveX control I put a few Label controls with background style
set to Transparent, ditto the ActiveX control itself. On running a test
form with this control in it, the appearance of text in the labels is
reminiscent of a page typed with a typewriter with a dried-up ribbon.
Sort of blurred and moth-eaten. I know the documentation warns against
having "large amounts of text" with a transparent background, but is
this normal? (I'm using VB5)

See Knowledge Base article:

ID: Q180768

There is no workaround specified, though.
