COM and DCOM are object technologies (local and distributed) for the
transfer of data between two objects or a app and a object. COM+ is the next
generation of this tech. COM defines how a object exposes itself and talks
to the rest of the world.

ATL is a C++ framework you can use to build apps in place of the C++ MFC
framework -- In general these (ATL andf MFC) are wrappers to Win32 APIs and
high level GUI and other libs (higher than low level C runtimes/libs).

ActiveX is a marketing term for COM/DCOM interface objects and normally
holds a visual control.

DLL (Dynamic Link Lib) is a loadable sharable libary (maybe be a COM object
or not). Which is registered with the OS and is loaded/unload either by
reference to the object or by program request. DLLs of any type service
multiple request (tasks) by loading one copy of code and have per process
(or thread) copies of data.
