How do I get this control? I have VS 6 SP4 and IE 5.5 SP1 on my system, but I didn't see this control in the list of installed controls. -- Thanks, Mike Ober

If you're looking for a control specific for FTP we have one as part of our commercial SocketTools package. If you want more of a 'roll your own' solution, we also include an FTP sample in our freeware SocketWrench package. You can download either package from our website at http://www.catalyst.com. David

ActiveX control for FTP
Hi Michael, I have been using for more than a year now the xFTP control, created by Brad Perkins: http://www.mrxsax.com/products.htm Inlike the Inet control that comes with VB, the xFtp supports ASCII mode transfer. And it is also free. So far I did not have any problems with it. Regards, Stoil

It is called the "Microsoft Internet Transfer Control" in the list of components. It can be used for either FTP or HTTP protocols. It should already be there if you have VS 6 properly installed. Quote:

Found it. Is there any way to get it to transfer in ASCII mode since 90% of my corporate FTPs are text files? -- Thanks, Mike Ober

Microsoft's Internet Transfer Control does not support ASCII mode file transfers. For more information, refer to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q188/9/56.asp The FTP part of SocketTools I mentioned earlier does support binary and text (both ASCII and EBCDIC) file transfers.
