Common Control & Win XP Themes

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

My comctl32.dll is 5.82 (xpsp1.020828-1920)

Even though I am running XP (and SP1) it seems not to be
version 6.0

Where do I get V6.0 from, so that I can use MSConctl.ocx
V6.0 to get themes?

Thanks again,

Rob D.

v5.0/MsComctl.ocx v6.0.

Sorry, my mistake... it was version 6.0 (the 5.82 was the
file version)

So why does MSComctl.ocx not work properly?

Rob.

MSComCtl does not use the comctl32 DLL file AFAIK. If you want XP styles you
HAVE to use version 5, no two ways about it.

Right and not right. MSComctl.ocx uses comctl32.dll, but it's static bind
into the ocx, so mscomctl.ocx uses its own (old) version of comctl32.dll.

Don't mix comctl32.dll v6.0 and Comctl32.ocx v5.0/MsComctl.ocx v6.0.
Comctl32.ocx and MsComctl.ocx are just for Visual Basic and have nothing to
do with manifests. You need comctl32.dll v6.0 in order to get the XP-style.

Classnames of controls are different. XP applies a theme to a control based
upon it's Classname.
If you wish to use the newer controls in your VB projects then you will have
to create them via API.
Themes will be applied to the controls that are created from <Version 5.0
(SP2)> provided InitCommontrols is correctly called and a Manifest file is
properly created and located. You may add a manifest resource to your
project (which will be compiled into your exe) to remove the dependancy on
an external Manifest file.
