Crystal Report Designer doesn't start in VS.NET (specified module could not be found)
To add a Crystal Report on my WebForm (in VS.NET), I right-clicked the project in the Solution Explorer to 'Add a new item...'. The I added a Crystal Report. The next thing to happen should be the Crystal Report Designer launching, but it doesn't start. When I double-click the <report>.rpt in the Solution Explorer (this also should cause the Crystal Report Designer to start). Also in this case, it won't start and I get the following error message: " Microsoft Development Environment: 'The specified module could not be found' " I have installed a full setup of Visual Studio.NET, beta 1, that should include the Crystal Report Designer. Any ideas?

Crystal Report Designer doesn't start in VS.NET (specified module could not be found)
There is a file called MSVCP60.DLL. This file is some kind of C++ runtime file. It is a dependency of CRAXDDT.DLL (and thus the designer) and also database drivers like P2SOLEDB.DLL. This file does get installed, but not to a directory where it can always be loaded. Find it on the machine and copy it to the system32 directory. Now all these DLLS load, and the designer and engine work. If it's not there, then CRAXDDT fails to load and you get a "The Specified module could not be found." error. Also you will get a "Could not load database DLL" error if you try to view a report. One of the reasons why this file was not installed correctly the first time is due to deselecting the Visual FoxPro installation option when installing VS.NET. -Mandeep

Crystal Report Designer doesn't start in VS.NET (specified module could not be found)
Thanks for your tip, but unfortunately it doesn't work. I copied the file CRAXDDT.DLL to the system32 directory. It didn't work. Then I restarted my pc. Again it didn't work. Then I tried to register the DLL with REGSRV32. I got the message LoadModule("CRAXDDT.DLL Could not find specified module"), just like the message when you enter the wrong path. I'm sure my path was typed in correctly. Maybe my DLL is incorrect or something like that? I'm running Windows 2000 Professional (logged in as administrator). Note: I did install a full version of VS.NET (including Visual FoxPro) Ralph Quote: > There is a file called MSVCP60.DLL. This file is some kind of C++ runtime > file. I doubt that these NET DLLs have to be registered in the registry ... (or that they are registerable). After all they are no COM dlls ...

Actually, it's the MSVCP60.dll that needs to be in the \winnt\system32\ folder. The CRAXDDT.DLL, can remain in the default path. So make sure that MSVCP60.DLL is in the \winnt\system32 folder, and then try to register the CRAXDDT.DLL. -Mandeep

Crystal Report Designer doesn't start in VS.NET (specified module could not be found)
Ralph, Thanks! Now the Designer starts in VS.NET! I'm just still wondering why it didn't work in the first place. Crystal Report Designer should be included in a full installation of VS.NET beta 1 on a Windows 2000 Professional workstation (IIS, IE5.5, .NET Framework SDK beta 1, MSDE and Component Upgrade 1.0 beta 1 installed before installing VS.NET)? Are these just 'beta'-problems? Thanks anyway, Ralph

Crystal Report Designer doesn't start in VS.NET (specified module could not be found)
I don't know why it didn't work the first time. These are not beta 1 problems, but we've had a few people run into the same error. I personally haven't run into this problem, yet, and I reinstall beta 1 all the time. At least it works! :-) -Mandeep
