Visual Studio.NET vs Visual Basic.NET

 Visual Studio.NET vs Visual Basic.NET

I am currently working in Visual Studio.NET and am looking to buy additional
copies of Visual Basic.NET for other computers I own.  The concern I have
with doing this is what I am going to loose on the other machines.  My major
concern is loosing the ability to access SQL Server Databases in the "Server
Explorer".  I know Studio.NET has that functionallity, but need to know if
VB.NET has it too.  I looked it up on the Microsoft Web Site and this is
what it said,

"VISUAL DATABASE TOOLS:  Design Stored Procedures, Indexes, Tables,
Triggers, User-defined functions, and other database elements visually.  In
the VS.NET Professional Edition, these design capabilities are limited to
the SQL Server Desktop Engine

RAD for the Server:  Access and integrate server administration tools, event
logs, databases, and XML Web services.  Server Explorer and tools
incorporate server-side application components.

Both of these have a Check Mark next to the VS.NET and NONE next to the
VB.NET?

I am just finding it difficult to understand what it is saying:  I want to
be able to grab a table from the SQL Server Database and drop it onto Form1
and have a DataAdapter appear and be able to use all the parameters
associated the the Data Provider and the Connection String in SQLClient.

Thanks,

Charles A. Lackman

 Visual Studio.NET vs Visual Basic.NET

Charles,

I empathize with you about the unclear descriptions of the various MS
developer products.

I have VB.NET Standard, and I'm not 100% sure what it doesn't have, but I
can tell you that it DOES have the "Server Explorer". I can grab tables and
drop them onto forms as you describe. I don't have the full SQL Server but
it seems to work with MSDE and Access databases (although now I prefer to do
it programmatically anyway), and I can't imagine that it would not work with
SQL Server.

The things that are missing from my version that most tempt me to upgrade
are:
No Crystal Reports (if you want to make database apps, you need a reporting
tool)
No ability to create class libraries

Patrick
