I am learning VB.NET and am wondering....

...if you guys and gals would recommend for me to learn
the in's and out's of databases first. The reason I ask is
that I've heard that alot of VB programs are really just
front-ends to databases. I already have two good books on
larning VB.NET and Access programming...it's just a matter
of the right path to study first. If your answer is
databases...to what extent should I learn databases? Do I
need to know just the basics of tables, normalization,
relationaships, etc., or do I need to know the actual db
programming aspects as well? All help would be greatly
appreciated to start me on the correct path. Thanks in
advance!

I think that really depends on what you are going to program.  I would not
rule out learning the database education but there is alot you can do with a
program that doesn't use a database.   You are correct that a lot of
programs are front ends to a database.  There are also a good portion of
programs that never touch a database.    I would recommend learning as much
as you can about the programming language,  with that you will learn how
databases work and how to send and receive data to them.

Thanks for the advice! I believe that is what I will do. I
have been studying access enough to get the basics down of
design so that when it comes time to connect to a database
I can figure it out, and if not then I still have the book
to read. As far as what I am going to program...I dont
even really know. My customer base is small to mid size
companies in a couple different industries so it could
vary quite a bit. But I feel that VB.NET will be a good
tool for me in any case. Thanks again!
