Java is dead on server side!! PHP is 4 times faster than JSP, ColdFusion, ASP!!
With ultra fast internet connections fast becoming a way of life for the
standard surfer and CPU speeds growing at leaps and bounds who really cares.
What are we talking "nanoseconds". You make it sound like all a developer
looks at is speed as being the first priority. Java has a huge following and
I don't see PHP replacing it this year. There is such thing as syntax,
design and API's. Just try to go to JAVAONE and tell everyone there that PHP
is going to replace JSP. JSP, ASP ect is not just a design implementation
it's a state of mind for a lot of developers. The people who decide which
paradigm that a shop will use is not the developer but the shop boss - you
go tell this guy who is Microsoft certified and 15 years web programming
experience PHP is faster and it's time to dump ASP. He would laugh at you.
Speed is last on the list as far as design considerations. To be honest I
was a java fanatic - but I took a look at the job market and decided dotNet
was going to be huge. Employability - ASP first - JSP second and who knows
where PHP.
