Windows Forms in Office Applications ???

In the pre-dot-net days I could buy a Widget Calculator ActiveX control from
Controls-R-Us and drop it on a web page, Excel sheet, Word doc or any other
container application. After installing WidgetClac it magically appeared in
the list of selectable controls in every application and pretty much behaved
the same way everywhere.

And now....

Windows Forms apps can be used for distributing prepackaged components, like
ActiveX controls (right?) but I am not finding too much documentation on how
to embed them into applications other than IE (for example, Office)

How does that work exactly? Any good whitepapers on how to build and
distribute packaged commercial components?

Thanks.

Assaf
