 Monitor size and the MDE

I guess that one way is to make particular windows floating, instead of
docking.

Is there a list of which windows should be floating and which should be
docked?

 Monitor size and the MDE
I am using a 19 inch monitor.

It seems that the default window arrangement and size in, e.g., VB .NET is
designed for much larger monitors.
For example, if I wish to do a Replace of text, the Replace window is
inserted above the Solution Explorer, but there is no scroll bar in the
Replace window to get to the buttons that are off the end of the screen.

What's the trick to arranging windows so that they can be properly seen?

Fine, but what screen resolution are you using? If you're at 640x480, you'll
get the same viewing experience as you would with a 15" monitor. (Just
everything will be bigger.) To pack more into your screen real-estate you
need to pump up your resolution.

That should be anough for a nice sized workspace. I run mine at 1280x1024
and I don't see the problem you describe. The find dialog 'remembers' its
last position. Did you previously run this at a higher resolution?

When the window is docked, the Find window just does not fit.
I've now set Find/Replace to float.
