 error on install

I am trying to install VB .net academic version on XP
Professional onto a partition (primary) drive D:. I have
checked the sharing permissions. But shortly into the
install process I keep getting the message 'Unable to
create directory 'Program Files.' At present there is
nothing else on the partition and I don't have the space
on the C: partition. Any ideas?

Did you deactivate/shut down/deinstall all virus scanners/"system
health"/"system protection" programs?
