character '^' inside a sql query

Hi i'm giulio
i have a problem inside an asp page
a query of this type:
select name from table where description like '9^ day' gives no results but inside access there is a record to show with this criteria. in fact the query run inside access gives the correct result, instead the web page finds no records to show.
Why this behaviour?
thank you to anyone who will reply
