 Gettype for Windows 2000 doesn't work?

The gettype tool does not seem to recognize the Windows 2000 OS.  For
example, on a Win2k professional it is supposed to return an error level of
2 but it incorrectly returns a value of 1 - meaning that the box is Windows
NT.

Has anyone seen this problem before?  What is the fix?  Perhaps there is a
new gettype that fixes this flaw.  The version I am using is a 40, 960 Kb
executable - 4/21/1999.

My guess is that it is becasue of one of the following:

1.  Since Gettype queries the registry for OS version, it is reading the
Windows_NT as the OS version from some unknown and wrong location in
registry,

2.  Or, perhaps that I am using an incorrect version meant for Windows NT
only.

Any tips is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure of exact functioning method, but your gettype sounds a bit suspect
as far as age goes.  I have an identically sized one from 10/29/1999 which
correctly identifies a Win2K server.

What is the version number of your gettype?  Mine is 4.0.  If you run it with a
"/?" it should give you the rev as well as show you what output it can give.

I might also suggest my free osver.exe, which also works on Windows 9x/Me
(gettype.exe is NT-only)...

http://www.oregonclassifieds.net/utilities/files/admtool2.zip

Usage: OSVER [-s] [-t] [-q]

Without -s or -t, returns OS version as an exit code value:
  0 = Unknown OS
  1 = Windows 95
  2 = Windows 98
  3 = Windows Me
  4 = Windows NT 4.0
  5 = Windows 2000
  6 = Windows XP

With -s, returns the NT (or later) service pack number as an
exit code value. -s on a non-NT system returns an exit code of 99.

With -t, returns NT type:
  0 = Not running NT/failed to determine NT type
  1 = Workstation
  2 = Server (not domain controller)
  3 = Server (domain controller)

-q specifies quiet mode (no output).
