i am a completely newbie to VBScript and wanted to know if there is an easy
way to change the proxy settings for the system.
better would be a way to have many instance of a browser with different
proxy settings. is this possible? maybe with another browser than IE (eg. NN
or Opera)?

The relevant Data/Values pairs can be found in the following Registry Key.
I've used scripts to manipulate them.

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
