 determining line # in textarea

Hi All,
Does anyone what method call/property tells you what line
the cursor is on in a textarea, or if the cursor is on the
top line?  It doesn't look possible but I'll ask anyway.

Pretty messy even when you know the width. You have to now a lot: font,
kerning, etc.
