 <pre></pre> problem

Hi

when I use <pre></pre> tags to format text, it always creates an empty
line. For example:
------------------------------
html code:
  <pre>line 1</pre>
  <pre>line 2</pre>
------------------------------
result:
line 1

line 2
------------------------------

Have any way to eliminate the empty line.

Thanks a lot.

Frank

 <pre></pre> problem
<pre></pre> is a block element like a <p></p> that by definition has visual spacing before/after.

Why put <pre></pre> tags around every line?

<pre>
line1
line2
</pre>

 <pre></pre> problem
Sorry, my previous example is bad one.  The example should be
--------------------------------------
html code:
<pre>
line 1
line 2
  :
</pre>
begin other context ...
-----------------------------------------
result:
line 1                                       <----
line 2                                       <----  formated block
  :                                            <----
                                               <----  empty line generated by <pre></pre>
begin other context ...
-----------------------------------------

How do I delete the empty line?

Thanks.

Frank
