Hi,
Windows 2000 has a new feature called "System File Protection", which means
that it won't let you install copies of the core OS files (such as Internet
Explorer and the Script Engines). This is to help improve stability - a lot
of problems with Windows applications are caused because application ABC
overwrites a system DLL needed by application XYZ with an older (or even
newer) version, and XYZ no longer works.
We have to get a special setup package enabled that is signed with the
Windows 2000 Digital Signature in order to install onto Windows 2000. Note
that this only affects system files - files shipped on the Windows 2000
CD-ROM - and not to third party applications in general.
You can always extract the two files to another directory and manually
register them with regsvr32.exe
Why would you want to install IE 5.01 on Windows 2000 - that is the version
that ships with Windows 2000! :-)
