http://www.*-*-*.com/ #FAQ4_24

of course you've not provided your top.openWindow function (I'd suggest
not using that in any case, what if the page is outside of a frame...

<a href='t3_00_00_00_tl1.htm' target='poptext'
onclick="window.open('','poptext','heigh=450,width=320')">link</a>

Outside of a frame, top (and parent, too) point to the current window
object.

true, but isn't unlikely that the openWindow function isn't in the
current frame aswell as top???

hanns,

i tried this in IE 5.0, the link does not change color as
long as the onclick handler ends with a 'return false'
statement.

change it to

<a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openWindow
('t3_00_00_00_tl1.htm','poptext',450,320);">link</a>

and it shows up as 'visited'.

Perhaps this might work with your 5.5 browser as well.

Yes but it shows up as you having visited javascript:void(0) url, which
is surely useless.

thanks for taking a look into things.
i found a solution.
here it is. it supports netscape (nc) and ie from 4.x up:

<a href="t3_00_00_00_tl1.htm" onclick="top.openWindow
('t3_00_00_00_tl1.htm','poptext',450,320);if(top.nc==0)void
(30001);return false;">link</a>

nc==0 -> microsoftBrowser 4.xup
nc>0  -> ncBrowser 4.xup
