Working out whether a HTML element is actually onscreen

Hi,

Does anyone know a easy way of finding out whether a HTML element is
actually visible. I don't mean using the CSS display or visibility
properties, what I'm interested in is when an element has been scrolled out
of view. I'm aware of scrollLeft/scrollTop etc properties but they are only
useful if the element you are interested in is actually partially hidden.

Cheers & TIA

mike
