can't make image and background colour match
I am trying to display a logo, which is stored as
a colour GIF image, and have its background colour
agree with the background of the window.

The problem is that the image is dithered,
instead of using the true colour of the pixels.
This is despite the fact that the colour of those
pixels is already in the colour map, and in use
as the background colour in the same
application.

To add insult to injury, it seems that it is using
the correct colour, but adding white pixels in the
dithering!

I've tried a number of alternatives for the
-palette option on the image create command, but
without any useful change.

Why is it dithering? Can this be directly
disabled?

A workaround might be to somehow edit the image
itself to make the background transparent instead
of the particular colour. Can anyone suggest a
tool capable of doing this?
