_Forum on Perl and Bioinformatics_

The next meeting of the Toronto Perl Mongers will be on February 28, 2002;
interested members of the public are welcome. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada).

Standard info on place and time is at: http://www.*-*-*.com/

Kevin Truong will be our guest speaker; he will be speaking on Perl and
Bioinformatics.

Title: "The Opportunities for the use of Perl in Bioinformatics".

Abstract: With the growing biological interest in mining the vast amounts of
genomic information for possible clues in genetic diseases and drug
discovery, it is becoming increasingly important to develop tools to manage,
distribute and interpret this information.  Perl is fast becoming an
important language in this challenge for linking programs together and
making it all work seemlessly over the internet.  This presentation will
introduce bioinformatics, its goals, its primary tools and put Perl in this
context.
