 SNMP Perl module problem

I am trying to install SNMP 4.2.0 module either via CPAN or
from source, I get the following error.  I'm betting this is
something simple, but it doesn't seem to be clicking in my mind.

Error message:

WARNING: MAN3PODS takes a hash reference not a string/number.
         Please inform the author.
Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good
Can't use string ("SNMP") as a HASH ref while "strict refs" in use at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/ExtUtils/ line 541.

I am running RH 7.3, perl 5.6.1, ucd-SNMP-libs 4.2.5-11.

Thanks for you help,

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your install problem - I may
have a work around though.

When I was doing my snmp scripting, I used the Net::SNMP module - located

Went in fine on both HP and Solaris systems, good docs; couldn't
ask for more.
