cgi.pm .vs. cgi-lib.pl

 cgi.pm .vs. cgi-lib.pl

Having recently learned perl, I was able to do impressive things
using cgi-lib.pl.  Now I see many references to cgi.pm, and some
neat scripts which use it.  Is cgi-lib.pl iconsidered obsolete?
When should I use one over the other?

thanx,
/Rick

Take a look at http://www.perl.com/perl/info/www/!cgi-lib.html.

It's a perl4 library. Perl4 is obsolete. So is cgi-lib. I don't even know
if it's supported any more. Check <url:http://www.perl.com/perl> for a
document outlining cgi-lib's various problems.

Of course, to use CGI.pm, you need to have perl5. If you don't, and you can't
get perl5, you're stuck.

I personally have not had sufficient time to go back and re-write my perl4
CGI's that depend on cgi-lib.pl to use the more modern modules. Someday,
I will.

James - just not today...
