 Problem with Net::IRC - it won't connect

I'm trying to use Net::IRC with the following script, but it can't connect
to the server. I've tried from 2 computers which I can normally access IRC
from. Any suggestions?

#!/usr/bin/perl

use Net::IRC;
use strict;

my $irc = new Net::IRC;
my $conn = $irc->newconn(Server => 'irc.openprojects.net',
                         Port   => 6667,
                         Nick   => 'transbot',
                         Ircname => 'Half-assed translator')
    or die "irctest: Can't connect to IRC server. $! \n";

sub on_connect {
    my $self = shift;
    print "Joining #suse...";
    $self->join("#suse");
#    $self->privmsg("#suse", "hola");

Quote:
}

$conn->add_global_handler(376, \&on_connect);
$irc->start;

It dies with this message:
Can't connect to irc.openprojects.net:6667! at
/usr/share/perl5/Net/IRC.pm line 192
irctest: Can't connect to IRC server. Bad file descriptor

Perhaps instead of Net::IRC, you should be using POE::Component::IRC or
POE::Component::IRC::Object.
